Buy-many mechanisms are not much better than item pricing

چکیده
Multi-item mechanisms can be very complex offering many different randomized bundles to the buyer. Such complexity is thought necessary as revenue gaps between optimal and simple are unbounded. Our work shows these do not apply most natural situations: they require that mechanism overcharges buyer for a bundle while selling individual items at much lower prices. We study maximization under buy-many constraint which allows purchase any number of (randomized) he pleases. show O(logn) times achievable by item pricing, where n items. This holds even with an arbitrarily correlated distribution types arbitrary valuations. Furthermore, no family subexponential description achieve better than logarithmic approximation additive

This is the initial publication on Concept Calculus, which establishes mutual interpretability between formal systems based on informal commonsense concepts and formal systems for mathematics through abstract set theory. Here we work with axioms for "better than" and "much better than", and the Zermelo and Zermelo Frankel axioms for set theory.

متن کاملTwo Heads Are Better Than One, but How Much?
Many theories of causal learning and causal induction differ in their assumptions about how people combine the causal impact of several causes presented in compound. Some theories propose that when several causes are present, their joint causal impact is equal to the linear sum of the individual impact of each cause. However, some recent theories propose that the causal impact of several causes...
متن کاملAre Many Reactive Agents Better Than a Few Deliberative Ones?
Problem solvers fall along a wide spectrum ranging from highly deliberative to highly re-active. Highly deliberative systems are able to design optimally efficient solutions to problems , but they require complete world models and consume inordinate computational resources. Reactive systems move in real time but cannot guarantee efficient solutions. They are also subject to looping behavior. On...
